Golf with the Pro - August 15 and August 18
Ladies:
Time to take our games up a notch with a little help from our friends in the Pro Shop! Brian will join us on the course to give us some tips and pointers while we are playing a real game.

May 2011 Newletter
Let the games begin! The Opening Social was held inside this year - just in case. Of course, the sun started to shine at approx. 5:15!! Around 40 ladies took part, enjoying a few putting games and great appetizers washed down with a beverage or two. Chef promised that he will always have chicken quesadillas on the menu for league nights as well as new wine glasses.

Great to see so many "old" friends returning and warmly welcome our new members.

The club house is undergoing a facelift so check out the very jazzy new ladies room on the main floor first time you play! Have to wait and see if mauve is still the colour of choice in the ladies change room.

League Play and Tournaments
There will be tournaments on the following dates, all with finishing times between 5:30 – 6:00 pm. If you play later on those nights, you will have the course to yourselves! As the evenings are long in June, this is a good option.

  • Thursday, June 2nd
  • Thursday, June 9th
  • Thursday, June 16th
  • Thursday, July 14th
  • Thursday, September 8th

A few assorted items...
The Pro Shop does accept cash. You can play 18 holes during our league tee times for $36.75. If you would like to play a bit earlier than 5:00 pm on either Monday or Thursday afternoon, call 1-888-Tee-Usup to book a tee time.

www.ladieslink.ca will be the place to look for league info such as clinics, important dates and general ladies golf info. The members section is accessed by a username/password, which is available in the newsletter.

Remember to be considerate and always practice good golf etiquette, such as…

  • Keep up with the group in front of you, not ahead of the group behind you.
  • Play ready golf! While others are hitting, go to your ball and prepare to hit. When you are ready and it's your turn, hit the ball!
  • Leave your cart just to the right of your ball so it's close but won't interfere with your swing (lefties do the opposite!)
  • Do not walk in the path of a player who is ready to hit.
  • Keep practice swings to a minimum.
  • Only spend one minute looking for a lost ball – if you are unable to find it, play another ball (optional 1 stroke penalty for novice golfers).
  • Stick to a 4-some. A 5-some may sound like more fun but it really slows you down and will interfere with the group behind you. If you have 5, then split up as 2 and 3.
  • Restrain yourself from jumping on the green – even if you just birdied that hole! Even soft cleats can really chew up the ground.
  • Do not mark your score on the green just played – others are waiting! Mark your score card on the next tee while you are waiting to tee off.
  • Replace all divots and repair all ball marks!
  • Dress code is in effect – no tank tops or short shorts please.

The Nine Shot Rule
We play a nine shot rule - take only six shots on the fairway and three putts on the green! If you are unable to reach the green with six shots, pick up your ball and place it on the edge of the green. If you are unable to sink the ball in three putts, pick up the ball and proceed to the next hole. Maximum score of 9 strokes per hole. This rule keeps up the pace of the game and lowers the frustration level for new players and those who are having a rough round!

End of Season Tournament
The Closing Tournament will be held on Sunday, September 25th. The club has promised us a shotgun start if we have 40 golfers so please mark the date on your calendar and plan to play.

For the $10 tournament fee, you get 9 holes of golf, a goodie bag, a hot luncheon, and a prize. If you can only come for the golf OR can only come for the meal, there is no charge.

Watch for the registration form on the website in late August / early September.

We are looking for prize table donations or items for the goodie bag. Don't be shy in letting us know that you are able to help.
